lua azul

Instrumentation: Piano, Flute, and Latin Percussion

Duration: 7'00

Premiere: May 4, 2014, at First United Methodist Church of Mesa

Performers: Jane Garvin, Flute; Karalyn Schubring, Piano; Kory Andry, Percussion

Program Note: I was inspired to compose this piece by my increasing fascination with Latin music, especially Bossa Nova style. Lua Azul was inspired by the energy of this very danceable music, and the title is Portuguese for "Blue Moon." Like the saying, "Once in a blue moon," Lua Azul celebrates the little miracles that happen every so often, sometimes out of the blue.

Lua Azul was a winner of the American Composers Forum NextNotes High School Composition Awards in 2016.
